Service Description

A 6 week photography course aimed at beginners with professional photographer Ruth Armstrong. Shake the dust off that camera that’s hardly been used or give that new one its first airing. Learn how to take photographs worth printing and keeping and start to appreciate the world from a new perspective. This course will give an introduction to photography, providing the beginner photographer with the basic skills and confidence needed to start creating. We will look at ISO, Shutter speed, and Aperture, and learn how these three things work together. We will also study the use of light, composition and framing. Each week we will begin the class by discussing great photographers and artists, past and present, to discover how they use their craft. We will also look into what photography means to us as individuals. Every class will cover a different aspect of photography, and small photography projects will be set to give participants the chance to practice their new skills. Time will also be assigned during every session for one-to-one tutorials, giving everyone a chance to discuss work individually or seek further advice or information as required. To get the most from these classes you should have access to a camera that allows you to control the settings manually. We will mostly look at the use of available light, so no further equipment is necessary. Please note there will be a one week break during the course between weeks 2 & 3.
