Wild Flower Drawing & Painting
Saturday 2 July 10.30 - 1.30pm outdoors at Craigmillar Castle Park
- 35 British pounds£35
Get up-close and familiar with stunning Foxglove, Thistle, Fern, Marsh Orchid, Willowherb, Blackberry Blossom, Red Campion & Green Alkanet among many other wild flower species. These should all be flowering in early July and we want to grab the opportunity to host an outdoor drawing class in the gorgeous surroundings of Craigmillar Castle Park where you can study, observe and draw whatever botanicals take your fancy. The workshop will start at 10:30 when we’ll take a short walk through woodland to an area with the most abundant variety. Tutor Suzanne Gibson will point out various wildflower species along the way. Here you’ll be invited to choose a subject to draw, settle down and draw/paint to your hearts content, ensconced in nature. All drawing/painting abilities are most welcome. We’ll provide an outdoor cushion, an art materials pack with a variety of medium including fine liners, watercolours, pencils and charcoal and tea/coffee/biscuits to keep you fuelled. The aim of the three hours is to immerse yourself in observing & drawing accompanied by bird song and fresh air with the artistic guidance and support of self-confessed wild flower geek, Suzanne Gibson. Please note, there are no toilet facilities at Craigmillar Castle Park. Please dress for the outdoors; sturdy trainers or walking boots and waterproof jacket are advised. Feel free to bring a lightweight, folding camping chair although an outdoor cushion will be provided. The area is well served by paths, but you can expect some woodland and long grass terrain. Should the weather forecast prove to be poor on the day, we will advise you by email 24hrs prior to the event. In the case of rain forecast, we will change location to indoors at Birchwood Art Studio where we’ll use bespoke source material and photographs to illustrate the same species we’d have found on location.
We hope to avoid cancelling classes or workshops whenever possible but sometimes life happens and it's unavoidable. When we have cancelled you will be offered either a refund or the opportunity to transfer your booking to another class/time. We can't offer refunds if you can't make it to a class or workshop but if there are places available on another day we will do our best to fit you in. If you cancel 14 days or more before an event we will refund you if we are able to re-sell your place(s).
