Learn portraiture and figure drawing with artist Suzanne Kemplay Perfect for those who love the challenge of tackling one of the hardest yet most satisfying subjects. Get ready to focus like never before on heads, shoulders, knees and toes. In this 7 week course we explore portraiture and figurative drawing & painting. We look at the head and face in detail, learning new skills to aid us in creating confident portraits. We will look at the figure and different ways we can work to express form and movement. These classes can be done individually but ideally by following from one class to the next you will learn a step-by-step process that will give you a new set of skills and help develop your drawing & painting. Some of the classes have pieces that are worked on over two weeks. Week 1. Head studies: Exploring drawing the head, placement of features, focus on contour drawings of head. Portrait head study in conte pencils, working from photograph of a model. Week 2. Portrait Head: Light & Shadow Charcoal study of portrait head. Complete Portrait head from week 1, developing shading. Week 3. Figurative studies in charcoal: In this class we will be doing figure studies in charcoal. Week 4. Gestural & Tonal Figure studies: A gestural drawing captures the energy and feel of a pose. We will then do tonal figure drawings using a watercolour/ink wash. Week 5. Study of Hands: In any figurative work hands are incredibly important and should not be ignored. We will do studies of hands and then produce a more detailed drawing. Week 6. Painted Portrait: Over 2 weeks Week 7. Painted Portrait: Finish our portrait We will work mainly from photographs rather than with live models. A range of materials will be used and will all be supplied by the studio.
