Introduction to Water-Based Oils: Painting Interiors A 2-Day Summer Workshop at Birchwood Have you always wanted to try oil painting but don't know where to start? This friendly two-day workshop is the perfect introduction to water-based oils — a versatile, low-odour medium that's ideal for beginners. In the relaxed atmosphere of Birchwood across Monday and Tuesday 22nd and 23rd June, you'll spend two enjoyable days learning the essentials of oil painting while exploring one of the most charming subjects in art: the interior. From a sunlit window to a cosy corner of a room, interiors offer a wonderful mix of light, colour, and everyday detail. Over the two days, you'll discover: How water-based oils work and how to get started with confidence Basic colour mixing, brush techniques, and building up paint layers How to compose and simplify an interior scene Tips for capturing light and atmosphere in your painting No experience is needed — just a curiosity to learn and a willingness to enjoy the process. All materials and guidance will be provided, and you'll leave with new skills, fresh inspiration, and a painting to take home.

We hope to avoid cancelling classes or workshops whenever possible but sometimes life happens and it's unavoidable. When we have cancelled you will be offered either a refund or the opportunity to transfer your booking to another class/time. We can't offer refunds if you can't make it to a class or workshop but if there are places available on another day we will do our best to fit you in.
