Portrait Painting with Suzanne Kemplay

Weekend workshop - Sat/Sun 25 & 26 May 10am - 4pm

Class Details

Portrait painting inspired by John Singer Sargent John Singer Sargent (1856 to 1928) was the most successful portrait painter of this time. A student of Carlos Duran, he dispensed with the traditional academic approach to drawing and painting in favour of the alla prima method which relies on proper placement of tones of paint. Join experienced tutor and well known Scottish artist Suzanne Kemplay, and model Magnus Huntly-Grant for two immersive days of portrait painting in the style of Sargent. Suzanne will explain how to: identify and describe light and shade on the face, create realistic flesh tones and painterly brush strokes and loosely describe clothing through demonstrations and practical exercises. Workshop breakdown Day 1 Morning - Simplifying features in the face to create light and shadow Afternoon - Tonal underpainting Day 2 Morning - Flesh tones and brushstrokes Afternoon - Completing finished portrait Suzanne will be working in acrylics and all materials are supplied.
