Singer Sargent style Portrait Painting
Two Day Workshop - Saturday & Sunday, 6 & 7 September, 10am - 3.30pm, with Suzanne Kemplay
Class Details
Portrait painting inspired by John Singer Sargent John Singer Sargent (1856 to 1928) was the most successful portrait painter of this time. A student of Carlos Duran, he dispensed with the traditional academic approach to drawing and painting in favour of the alla prima method which relies on proper placement of tones of paint. Join experienced tutor and well known Scottish artist Suzanne Kemplay for two immersive days of portrait painting in the style of Sargent. Day 1 will start with a short presentation on portraits followed by a series of exercises made to encourage developing our own style of painting. On the afternoon of day 1 we will be sketching out our portraits and starting to establish the composition and tone of our portraits. Day 2 will include short demonstrations on painting features and colour mixing skin tones. We will work towards having a finished portrait by the end of day 2. All materials and refreshments provided morning and afternoon. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit the excellent cafe next door. Suitable for all levels - over 16s only.
