Class Details

Come and spend a day working outdoors! This is a chance to spend a good few hours drawing in the landscape. Students will find a spot which suits them along the canal path, and work on a couple of compositions, using pencil and watercolour. We’ll look at what makes a strong composition, at mark making and gathering information, and using colour in a loose but effective way. After lunch, we will continue working in the studio, looking at our sketches and considering how to develop them further. We’ll have a variety of materials on hand, so that students can take their work in a direction which suits them personally. At this point we’ll look at several relevant topics such as colour, abstraction and cropping. Referring to contemporary artists will help us take a creative approach to landscape painting. All materials are provided. Students are welcome to bring a packed lunch for the short lunch break. Alternatively there are excellent local shops and cafes close by.
